When you are trying to lose weight, chances are that you have already tried some methods that helped you during the first weeks, but then you found yourself into a plateau where weeks kept going and, even though you are doing the same routine, the pounds don't drop as fast as they used to and your willing starts to fall apart.
One thing that you need to have in mind is that the first pounds are the easiest to lose and, depending on how overweight you actually are, the path to follow is going to be different.
The first rule is to write a list with your goals to understand where you are and where you want to be in the next 6 months. Then, you need to find the path to get there.
Let's say that you want to lose 50 pounds (23 Kilos) in 6 months
Once you know where you are, you need to start to set achievable goals during the process. For example, think about the weight you want to lose in the first 2 weeks, in the first month and so on.
However, be realistic with your time and your body limits, don't put your hopes too high and then feel frustrated. In order to be realistic, try to be fair to yourself.
Just to have an idea, lets say that today you are trying to lose 50 pounds, so in 2 weeks you want to lose at least 7 pounds.
Now, you need to think about how to achieve these goals.
If you are a sedentary person, you can try walking 3 times a week and having a proper diet that will help you to get rid of the unnecessary calories.
If you are used to walking, maybe you can try running one or two times a week.
So, you need to write down all your goals and steps for 6 months. Bear in mind that it is not going to be easier to lose the weight once you are in the 2nd and 3rd month, but it will not be impossible either. You need to be relentless and don't stop at any moment, because it is easy to think that one week is not going to make a big difference, but if you stop for one week, then you have to start all over again.
So be patient, be realistic and have your goals in mind.
So what is the next step?
If you are trying to lose less than 50 pounds, the path is going to be easier than if you want to lose more than that. A good rule of thumbs is to go to a nutritionist that can measure your fat levels, understand your health and give you a diet to follow.
Once you have a diet, the best way to follow your goals is to have a method to track them.
You can use a bullet journal, track every day and week, and add your stats there.
A better way can be a fitness tracker which can track your goals as well your fitness and health stats and send all this information to your phone by using an App.
Even a $50 Fitbit can achieve this, so you can check for some fitness trackers and find out which one suits you the best.
A good thing about having a fitness tracker is that you are going to have stats for your health, not only your calories burnt and your daily steps, but also your heart rate monitored. In fact, you can track your sleep patterns, get all your goals on the app and create a list of them as well. With the Fitbit app, you are going to receive medals every time you achieve a goal, making your way even easier and fun.
So now it is up to you, get your goals in order, be realistic and fair with yourself and get going!
Last but not least, be kind to yourself, having to change your lifestyle to run, get into a diet, or exercise, is something that you are not going to get used to quickly, so be patient with yourself, don't mistreat you thinking that you are not good enough if you don't achieve a goal. It is not easy and you are not a robot, so go at your own pace make it fun, and get those pounds off once for all!
